Social Media Breakfast New Hampshire Partners with NHPR for 2013

After four years of SMBNH, I’m so pleased to announce our new partnership with New Hampshire Public Radio. They will be hosting us in Studio D each month throughout 2013. We feel that this partnership brings the educational basis of SMBNH to the forefront, and look forward to the next year!

Our first SMBNH of 2013 is in January on the 3rd Thursday, and will feature C.C. Chapman, author of Content Rules and his newest book: Amazing Things Will Happen.

We’ll be sending out an event link for this event and the rest of the year tomorrow. The firm schedule of events for 2013, hosted by NHPR, is as follows:

January 17
February 21
March 21
April 18
May 16
June 20
July 18
August 15
September 19
October 17
November 21
December 19

We’re also putting out a call for speakers.

UDATE: As many of you know – Magnitude Media relocated in 2013. We have turned the keys of this wonderful thing we started over to some smart, capable folks at Seacoast Social Media. They are now running the existing @SMBNH Twitter and the SMBNH Facebook group, and are continuing the partnership with NHPR. Look forward to quality content and networking from them at this event and their other events!

Next Social Media Breakfast NH Fall 2012: Metrics

As emerging media becomes more and more main stream, the demand for a monthly breakfast has declined. This is largely due to an increasing number of social media events at all times of day putting a strain on resources for planning and sponsorship as well as attendance – people simply don’t have time to attend everything! That doesn’t mean SMBNH is over, though, it just means it’s not happening monthly any more.

Our next Social Media Breakfast will be September 14th, 2012.  It will be epic – the advantage of doing fewer breakfast is that we have more time to get amazing speakers and cool venues. Please email me if you would like to suggest  a speaker, as this is now entering planning phase, or if you would like to offer to sponsor in some way.

As many of you know, my co-founder Kevin Micalizzi moved to San Francisco thanks to his amazing job with Data.com. I’ll miss him terribly not just as a friend, but also as an extremely efficient planning machine that helped me pull of SMBNH for the last three years, as well as PodCamp NH. That means if SMBNH is to continue at any frequency, I’ll need some help! Planning events is not a one person job.

Ping me if you think you are up to the task (warning: it’s time consuming). It should be noted that I am not just looking for help in the short term – at some point I’ll want to step down from this beautiful thing I’ve created and need someone who might be the right fit to take it over and carry the torch.

MEANWHILE, you can sign up for the next Social Media Breakfast NH right now, even while we are planning it. Note: Ticket price is “Pay What You Want”, as donation help us pull this off for you.

SMBNH October at Phillips Exeter Academy: Circles of Influence

Register for SMBNH At Phillips Exeter Academy: Circles of Influence in Exeter, NH on Eventbrite

Welcome to SMBNH: Circles of Influence: Google+ and How Social Media Empowers Users to Unite, Grow and Shape Communities

With a focus on large scale communications and communites as well as small scale, we explore how social media has helped nations topple, companies grow, politics change, local movements get off the ground and more. Whether it’s news regarding Libya’s conflicts or supporting a local talented artist by creating community and communication, these flexible tools help make it happen.

Phillips Exeter Academy SealThis month we are being hosted by Phillips Exeter Acedemy in Exeter, NH.

From their Mission page:

“Exeter seeks to graduate young people whose creativity and independence of thought sustain their continuing inquiry and reflection, whose interest in others and the world around them surpasses their self concern, and whose passion for learning impels them beyond what they already know.”

Some of our brightest stars have attended Phillips Exeter Academy and benefitted from their philosophy.

This month’s focus brings us a well rounded group of speakers as well.

The morning begins with an address from Phillips Exeter Academy, then seques into our three speakers, starting with

Leslie Poston, Founder of Magnitude Media and co-author of Twitter for Dummies, contributor to the Social Media ProBook and author of the Grande Guide to Social Advertising, as well as (coming in 2012) Social Media Metrics for Dummies, will address some of the privacy concerns faced by educators and others when building communities. Then moving on to

John Herman, Media Literacy Educator and Founder of NH Media Makers, author and polymath as well as a very special guest from Google will talk to you about building community, applying media literacy best practices and other topics related to Google +, and will demonstrate several of the Google + capabilities live during the talk.

We’ll then be closing the morning with our featured speaker:

Grant Sanborn, Director of Interactive Marketing for HCA Healthcare. Grant will speak about the challenges and best practices he’s experienced in building an online community around a 17 hospital group, including Portsmouth Regional Hospital.

There will also be a one hour campus tour of Phillips Exeter Academy immediately following the breakfast as well. We encourage you to take part.

All of us at SMBNH look forward to seeing you all there.

Follow Leslie, John, Grant, Phillips Exeter Academy, SMBNH on Twitter before the breakfast for up to the minute updates.

Circle Leslie, John, or Mike from PEA on Google + to get in the spirit of the breakfast.

SMBNH Seeks New Team Members For 2011

If you live in NH, you may be familiar with my Social Media Breakfast NH series. I have a fabulous team for several of our cities but as an organizer who also owns her own company, does PodCamp NH and a variety of other things, my time gets a little full. Toss in the fact that my intrepid co-organizer, Kevin Micalizzi, works for a company just bought out by Sales Force – well, you can see why we need even MORE amazing people to help.

You can read more about SMBNH on the official SMBNH blog, join the mailing list in the side bar there for news and announcements, and simply ping me on Twitter or via email if you are a frequent SMBNH attendee familiar with the format who lives in Manchester/Concord or Portsmouth and wants to help.
